Hey Lindsay, how am I doing so far?
0:00
Thanks, I said Lindsay's name twice.
0:04
What's up, GQ?
0:08
I'm P.K. Subban, and these are my 10 essentials.
0:10
First of all, I want to say for the record, I brought some designer pieces, but not everything in my closet needs to be designer.
0:19
You have a little travel case here.
0:24
You can see there's actually a light stamp of the NHL logo there, which is pretty cool.
0:33
Potentially, if I had my barber, I'd bring him everywhere I could, but he's a busy guy, so I have to bring my shaving kit with me.
0:37
You know, when we go to California or beautiful climate places like that, I like to let the beautiful breeze off the ocean go through my hair, my beard, not wear a hat.
0:45
So I want to make sure that I got my shaving kit here.
0:49
So this 'posi' right here, this is to smooth out the neck area, as you can see.
0:55
I got the lines tight, keep it real tight, so this thing will keep it real tight for you on the road.
1:01
Snap that right in there, bang.
1:01
On the other side, can't leave home without this cocoa butter, a little bit of my own beard oil, postseason edition.
1:10
Nice brush, and then this is very, very important, mostly black people of China need ten standard, especially males after shaving.
1:20
You get some nasty box without this ourselves.
1:20
So that's essential number two.
1:20
This beard's gonna get a whole lot longer the next couple weeks.
1:20
Yeah, Lindsay's not too happy with that, but she can write it off.
1:20
Tax season is April 15, but she can write it off in March.
1:20
Sunglasses, yeah, these are nice.
1:57
I'm not a big sunglass guy.
2:02
I have probably six to eight pairs of sunglasses, but really, I only wear about two or three.
2:02
This was a new purchase for me not too long ago, Sailor.
2:02
Ah, I take these shades everywhere I go, neutral all black, goes with everything, casually with a suit, just clean.
2:02
So as you can see, I'm not really a sunglass guy, more of a hat guy.
2:02
In sunglass day, I got many, many hats.
2:02
Spend a lot of time on my hats and building them.
2:06
I think I own like, I would say probably over 20 really solid hats.
2:12
This is definitely probably my favorite, to be able to have Adidas when I signed with them, partner with on there, was pretty cool.
2:23
So as you can see closely, there's tons of detail with my number on the back, there's like a moon here, a horseshoe.
2:23
I play for Nashville, so these three stars here, like the Tennessee three stars, Predators logo on the back, and all this stuff, it's all handmade.
2:23
On the inside, it says P.K. Subban Adidas.
2:23
There's the skull, as you can see with the hockey sticks.
3:08
This is art.
3:15
I don't even call this the hat, this is a piece of art.
3:15
I guess I can appreciate the work that goes into them and that's why I like well I owned, I would say comfortably, probably 70 suits.
3:15
I'm probably in the hundred range now, but I can't, I don't want to say I'm in a hundred and then someone find out that I'm below 100.
3:15
This one I would say is a staple for me in terms of essential.
3:13
I mean, it's, it's everything.
3:17
Whenever I go to play hockey games, the majority of the time, you can wear a black tie and black pocket square, because I believe that you're always going to bury the other team.
3:15
I usually keep my tie in my pocket square fairly solid and also playing in Nashville, the weather is great there, so this is a little lighter of a suit, so it's not as heavy as the wool suits that I had early on in my career when I was playing in Montreal.
3:39
It's a French cuff white shirt as well that I always wear and it's made by my tailor that also made my shoes and my belt.
3:39
So this is a P.K. Subban special, shout-out to Mark at Sartorial Toe.
3:39
I expect five new suits Monday morning on my doorstep.
3:54
Let's go.
3:54
You know, I actually don't buy dress shoes or belts, I get them custom-made.
4:07
These shoes I've had for a while now, but they're a staple as you can see with the detail.
4:07
I love the buckle and sort of the Gator strap on the top.
4:17
There's not a lot of flash here, but just very clean, classy.
4:14
The more simple my shoes can be, usually the better my outfits are going to look.
4:19
I also have custom-made belts, so whatever shoes I have, I get the belts made for the shoes.
4:25
That's how I put together my whole outfit.
4:27
You can't go wrong, black pretty much goes with everything, right?
4:29
Except for brown, so all good.
4:39
Airpods, yeah, I actually just graduated to the Airpods.
4:31
I don't jump on every bandwagon that comes out like just because everybody wants the iPhone 10 that doesn't mean I have to go and get it.
4:45
I think about all the work that you have to do just to transfer your contacts over, so I'm always slow to do all that stuff.
4:50
I like to listen to music before games to get focused and the most annoying thing is going through the arena security and having to take your headphones off.
4:59
I know it might seem like a small thing, but to me it's a big thing, so I never leave home without these Airpods.
5:11
Must I do like Michael owns, you know, most men obviously understand that it's important to have good fragrances.
5:11
I have a couple and this is the one that I take on the road with me, this is Creed.
5:11
Now, you know, Creed has been becoming more of a popular fragrance, you know, but I always go with the standard one.
5:11
It's just easy to have, very versatile.
5:11
I always think that less is more until it comes to my actual fragrance that I wear, my cologne.
5:11
Most people spray once or twice and they actually walk into it.
5:11
I spray once directly and then the two other times I walk into it.
5:11
It's basically greatness in a bottle.
5:44
That's pretty much what it is.
5:47
This is my satchel.
5:47
It's not too big and I can fit a lot of things in it.
5:54
I travel a lot so to be able to put my passport, my cash and all that stuff in here, not just cash but like my wallet, my important belongings, just to be able to keep my important belongings.
6:03
Supposed to be a no, I don't wear it around my waist.
6:05
I wear it over my shoulder like this.
6:07
Like I wear it like this, see.
6:16
Knowing you need to go inside a bank where you need it, Tom Ford all black leather gold-plated satchel.
6:19
Okay, so I actually just got these jeans a few days ago.
6:22
I got very, very hard legs and but to fit in jeans.
6:34
So whenever I find a pair that fits perfectly, I go and order like 10 pairs in the same make.
6:28
I love these jeans because they're black denim.
6:38
You can dress these jeans up with the color that they are, with the wash, you can wear them with a dress shirt, you can wear them with a hoodie, you can wear them with a jacket, whatever you want, basically.
6:50
I think there's a lot more companies out there that have made jeans for people with bigger legs and bigger thighs, but a lot of the designer companies are like, you know, they can't fit us, our bodies are a little bit abnormal, right?
6:50
You know, you're spraying three hours going store to store, taking pants off, putting them on.
6:50
It's just that, it's the worst.
6:50
So I'm just gonna start getting more of these jeans and everyone staples black denim jeans.
6:50
Fashion and clothes and style have always kind of been something that I'm passionate about, not only just fashion and buying clothes, but creating clothes.
6:50
And that's why with my hats and my jackets, these are like the two things in like my casual wardrobe that are like the most important to me.
6:50
Dust of Gods is a brand that's continuing to grow.
6:50
I'm huge into music, I love all types of music, but one of my favorite bands is the Rolling Stones.
6:50
I had never had anything with like the tongue on it, you know, and I'm like, it'd be sick and you made me like a denim jacket with like Rolling Stones inspiration and he's like, dude, just let me do my thing.
7:51
It's got some of the songs and lyrics to the songs on the front, it's got obviously my number there on the side.
7:57
He's got the finalist to the MHA and MHA is a league in Toronto in Canada.
8:09
I played in the GTH, y'all throng, which is the Greater Toronto Hockey League, but one of the opposite other leagues in the Ontario region is the OHA.
8:09
But the best part is the back, as you can see, you get the Dust of God's patch, got the Rolling Stone symbol and then on the bottom, he was able to put my logo in there, kind of my tagline for my whole career, change the game.
8:25
It's kind of cool because it's like you're wearing something that's yours but it doesn't like have your last name like plastered on the back.
8:33
For me it's not a matter of what everything means on the jacket because there's two things that I wanted on there, my love on my tagline and anything that I had to do with the Rolling Stones.
8:43
I didn't tell them where to put the 'Stu Gods' or whatever, he figured all that stuff out.
8:46
I didn't tell him to throw in these patches, like all that stuff's really, really cool.
8:51
Walking down the street in LA, no one's probably gonna know what this patch means, you know, but people in Toronto or in Canada let her see in this will know what it means.
8:59
So cool stuff.
9:01
Thanks GQ for having me.
9:01
These are my 10 essentials and to all my fans watching, I hope you guys understand everything that I got, why I got it.
9:09
Now go out there and be.
